PROF DR. NIENKE R. BIERMASZ

Prof dr. Nienke R. Biermasz is internist-endocrinologist at the Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, The Netherlands.

She holds a chair in internal medicine, “multidisciplinary and topreferent care of endocrine tumors, in particular pituitary conditions” and chairs the Leiden pituitary team and the rare disease office of the hospital( https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/staffmembers/nienke-biermasz#tab-2) . She is involved in the European Reference Center of Rare Endocrine Diseases and is adult chair of the Pituitary Main Thematic Group (https://endo-ern.eu/). She serves in the board of directors of the Pituitary Society and in the past in the ENEA (European Neuroendocrine Association).

Her clinical and research interests comprise the clinical and translational aspects of pituitary diseases, e.g. a PhD on Acromegaly, treatment and follow-up; The Leiden Studies (2005), Late complications of pituitary disease, Development of a burden and need questionnaire, a self-management program and a value based health care path for patients with pituitary tumors and a prospective multicenter study on the comparison of surgery and medical treatment in prolactinoma.

The Leiden University Hospital hosts an international multidisciplinary workshop CAPITAL (www.pituitarycourse.eu) with the mission to improve practical knowledge exchange between pituitary teams and experts.
